  • Bijli Mahadev Temple (Kullu)

    Hey Friends,

I am back with my coverage of traveling expeditions with this post. Today I am going to talk about an ancient temple of Lord Shiva situated in the beautiful lush green area of Kullu in Himachal Pradesh. This temple is rather known as Bijli Mahadev. It is located at an altitude of 2,438 metres (8,000 ft) and can be reached by a tough but rewarding climb through a 6 km long trek.

If we look from the temple site, a panoramic view of Kullu and Parvati valleys is available.A sixty feet high staff of Bijli mahadev Temple glistens like a silver needle in the sun. According to the historical significance, it is said that lightning comes down in the temple and break the Shiv Ling into pieces. By somehow, priest gets this information in the form of dream, when he is sleeping. The next morning after all this happening, Priest collects the pieces and rejoins them with the help of Butter. It is said that after completing the process, Shiv Ling regains its originality. According to the priest in the temple, Lord Shiva protects the whole world from bad events and mishappenings, by enclosing them in the form of lightening (which results in breakage of Shiv Ling), which could have made bad consequences for the future.

Friends, trust me, I have been to this place of God and it is amazing combination of God and Nature which you cannot see everywhere. Moreover, you can enjoy Noodles, Tea, sandwiches etc, on the top of the valley. Bijli Mahadev temple is closed in winters because of snow. According to me ideal time to visit this place would be in the month of September, October, November.

So what are you waiting for now !! Its not that difficult to reach there. You can reach Kullu (approx. 260kms. from Chandigarh) via Bus, Taxi. Flight is available from Delhi to Bhuntar. And from Bhuntar Kullu is hardly 20 minutes run. From Kullu, you can hire a taxi till the trekking path starts. Now, you are all set to start you trekking for about 1 and half hours (which can vary from individual to individual).

I hope you like this post. Stay tune for the next interesting facts and places, which I am going to share with you soon.

    Thanks,
    ChdGuy.
